Estonia is planning on being an active partner in order to further promote European defence cooperation during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, said Minister for Defence Margus Tsahkna who met with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on Friday.
Today, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller in the margins of the Lennart Meri Conference to discuss preparations for the NATO meeting of the Heads of State or Government taking place on 25 May, and the positions of Estonia.
At today’s meeting with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser affirmed that Estonia is ready for the Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2017.
This morning, President Kersti Kaljulaid met in Kadriorg with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting focused on both the internal developments of the European Union and the role of the European Union in the world in general.
Tomorrow, on 13 May, Eesti Post will launch a commemorative stamp priced at €1.40, to mark the first time Estonia will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The stamp was designed by the artist Indrek Ilves and printed by the Vaba Maa printing agency. There will be a limited run of 30 000 of the stamps.
Prime Minister Jüri Ratas met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in order to discuss the EU foreign and security policy strategy, migration issues, Eastern Partnership and the upcoming Estonian Presidency of the EU Council.
